  • ICS Students Give Back

    Fall 2015
    This year we have incorporated four core values into our school community: integrity, humility, hard work, and service. Immaculate Conception is working hard to make service a priority in school culture. There are many events happening in December centered around giving back. The Yankee Food Drive is one of the many ways ICS students are making a difference in their community. ICS students brought in canned goods that were then delivered to Yankee Stadium on December 16th. The food students will stock pantries for local food banks.

  • Partnership Welcomes Director of High School Placement

    Fall 2015
    Immaculate Conception’s mission is to provide students with a quality education and also to set them up for success after they graduate. Recognizing that high school is an extremely important next step for students, the Partnership Schools are strengthening its high school placement program. This fall, we welcomed Sherrie Henry as the High School Placement Director for the network. Sherrie will work with students and parents at all six Partnership schools to guide them through the high school selection and application process.

  • New Classrooms for the New School Year

Thanks to funding from the Louis Calder Foundation, a long-time Partnership supporter, Immaculate Conception and the other five Partnership schools were dramatically transformed over the summer.

  • Student Summer Activities

    Fall 2015
    7th Grader Chloe Rodriguez attended Camp Hidden Valley through The Fresh Air Fund.  Camp Hidden Valley is a unique sleep-away camp for boys and girls ages eight to twelve where children with and without disabilities live and play together. Chloe spent 12 days in Fishkill, New York, where she went fishing, swimming, and hiking. Christopher Betancourt, 8th grade, attended Camp Mariah in Fishkill, New York. Camp Mariah is a career awareness program, where students have the opportunity to take interesting courses.

  • Alumni Spotlight: Kendra Cabrera

    Fall 2015
    Our alumni spotlight is on 4th Grade Teacher Kendra Cabrera! Ms. Cabrera attended ICS for Middle School from 2002-2005. “6th to 8th grade was awesome! English and Science were my favorite subjects,” Ms. Cabrera recalled. Ms. Cabrera emphasized how her teachers in ICS really taught her and her classmates to be well rounded students.

  • Papal Visit Shines Light on Partnership Schools

    Immaculate Conception is usually abuzz when our students’ energy fills the halls at the beginning of the school year, but this year there was extra excitement with Pope Francis’ visit to New York City. The fact that he was visiting a Partnership School – Our Lady Queen of Angels (OLQA) in East Harlem – only added to the thrill. When all was said and done, Pope Francis’ time at OLQA on September 25th was one of the most unique, upbeat moments of his trip to the United States.

    On Friday, May 8th, Immaculate Conception students and supporters spent the evening at Yankee Stadium to celebrate the 5th annual Pinstripe Benefit. The event built on the success of the last four years, setting an attendance record with over 150 guests.

  • Discovering Fire with Lauren Delfavero,Director of Math Achievement

    Selected by Kathleen Porter-Magee to join the Partnership’s academic team, Lauren DelFavero serves as Director of Math Achievement. Ms. DelFavero comes to the Partnership most recently from Success Academy Charter Schools. Last year, all of her 5th graders passed the NY State math test with 96% of students scoring “fours” – the highest level. A self-described teacher from the word “go”, Ms. DelFavero looks forward to achieving the same results for all students in the network.

    Immaculate Conception School is thrilled to have the support of the Partnership for Inner-City Education’s new Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer, Kathleen Porter-Magee. Since joining the Partnership team in August, Ms. Porter-Magee has been working with Sister Patrice, our teachers and the other network principals to bolster student achievement at all six Partnership schools.
